I also wondered what the hoopla was about and found the idea intriguing. I followed some of the tutorials online and found most were using artificial colours and fragrances to get a 'wine' soap. I wondered though and tested out an idea that I had while visiting the above thread. I chose two wines with high sugar content to help with the transparency and lather. Two sweet moscatos. Also an...

Okay. I feel, after a few days of tweaking and researching, that I have a transparent soap that is alcohol, stearic-acid, SL, etc. FREE! :) I have posted pics of my most recent failures (translucent, but not transparent) that I really like and will now use to create gradients of translucency (more tests to come) flanking the successful transparent soap....

Due to a power outage, only one paramedic responded to the call. The house was very dark so the paramedic asked Kathleen, a 3-yr old girl to hold a flashlight high over her mommy so he could see while he helped deliver the baby. Very diligently, Kathleen did as she was asked. Heidi pushed and pushed and after a little while, Connor was born. The paramedic lifted him by his little feet and spanked him on his bottom. Connor began to cry. The paramedic then...

2) Some soaps won't peel out of the mold cleanly. I am using rectangle silicone molds.
3) Ideally I'd like a harder bar as the end product.

My recipes are exactly the same EXCEPT for one thing... the essential oils I use. Lavender seems to trace quicker than others. However, I just used Fir Oil, and it took FOREVER to trace and I left it in the molds for a week and they still...

I brought to a light trace, did an in the pot swirl, put it in my mold on top of my microwaved heating pad and tucked it under a couple of towels. 7 hours later it looks very liquidy! I was surprised that it didn't seem to thicken as I added my FO and colors, since I'm not all that fast...

For myself, I'm waiting for my most recent batch of bar soap to firm up (trying to give it 24 hours before I even touch it, since the soapcalc numbers put it just shy of the 'ideal' hardness range). In addition I fiddled around with the liquid soap I made yesterday (a good chunk of it didn't dissolved, and I was seeing if that was because there wasn't enough water to dilute it all... sure enough that was the...

I did a small batch (8 oz). 52% stearic acid, 48% coconut oil, saponified with KOH. I added 1.5 tablespoons of glycerin after it was done cooking, along with 1/4 oz of essential oils: 2/3 lemon & bergamot, 1/3 rosemary.

The soap making went fine, with no surprises aside from the soap never becoming truly translucent like my olive oil soap...

That means at a thin trace, I have trouble making the colours in a straight line from one end to the other, much less getting the next colour perfectly on top of the previous colour. So I used three colours, making...
